Kyle’s creative teaching idea, “iPad Lab for Movies,” is a multimedia innovation initiative designed to transform the Chatfield Library from a traditional repository into a 21st century creative media commons. While the school’s 1:1 Chromebook environment supports research, according to Kyle, students hit a “creation ceiling" when producing high-level digital content. This project introduces a fleet of mobile iPads, providing industry-standard tools like GarageBand and iMovie that go far beyond browser-based limits. His goal is to “untether” learning, allowing the library to serve as a collaborative hub for project-based learning. His goal is for students to use the iPads to film documentaries, compose music and design digital portfolios in shared “Innovation Zones.” According to Kyle, the Voya grant will help democratize specialized technology, ensuring all students — not just those in specific electives — master the languages of modern media as they move from a quiet warehouse to a dynamic, welcoming space where students don’t just consume information — they create it.
