The team’s innovative idea, “Art & Humanities Enrichment,” is an after school and summer program in which students can participate in workshops (led by volunteer teachers) that focus on the arts such as creative writing, copyediting, pottery/sculpture, literature, poetry, painting, sketch, fiber arts classes and music lessons, etc. According to the team, the workshops themselves would depend upon the teacher volunteers who are willing to participate and their availability and could turn into a year-long initiative (after school dates, weekend dates and summer dates), with workshop schedules varying to meet the needs of many students. The Voya grant will go towards supporting the supplies needed for each workshop, and if the school doesn’t have an available space, part of the grant funds will go towards renting suitable, safe spaces when necessary.
