Barret’s innovative teaching idea, “Music Opportunities-Students,” will provide students with new opportunities to learn and appreciate music. The program funded by the Voya grant will incorporate a piano lab for sixth-grade students to learn the basics of music theory, performance, composition, and interpretation using Finale, a music-oriented software program. As students become proficient on the piano, they will move on to guitars and other instruments. Barrett indicates the goal is to have students appreciate music as they advance through their academic years.
