Oman’s innovative teaching idea, “On-Site CNA Pathway Program,” was a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course offered in partnership with Ridgewater College for free at Wilmar Senior High School on site during the school day. Funding ended during the 2015-2016 school year, but since then, the program has relied on grants and community partnerships to continue. Student demand remains strong, with 86 students signing up in 2025 and 91 in 2026. The program allows students to complete required in-person hours and skills training at the high school rather than attending evening or weekend classes off campus. The course is non-credit; however, upon completion, students are eligible to test out at Ridgewater College and earn CNA certification through the State of Minnesota. A prior grant covered testing fees. The Voya grant will help support Ridgewater College instruction, supervision of online coursework and skills training, and fund equipment required for state-approved CNA education delivered on site.
