Miller’s innovative teaching program, “Future Aviators Lab,” is a new aviation program at Cambridge-Isanti High School designed to meet the growing workforce demand in the aviation industry while addressing the lack of student exposure to aviation careers. According to Miller, many students have little to no awareness of opportunities in this high-demand field, and this program will introduce them to aviation pathways through hands-on, career-focused learning. Students will enroll in a course about drones, designed to prepare them for the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, building skills in drone operation, safety and real-world applications. An Introduction to Aviation course will provide foundational knowledge for students interested in becoming pilots, including flight principles, navigation and career exploration. Miller hopes that these courses, together, will create accessible, engaging entry points into aviation careers and postsecondary pathways. He says the Voya grant will be used to purchase entry-level drones, safety equipment, batteries and other classroom resources.
