Ryck’s innovative teaching program, “Hannibal High School Adaptive Art Program: Sensory,” gives students with diverse abilities the chance to explore creativity, self-express and collaborate. According to Ryck, many special education students face challenges in traditional art due to fine motor, sensory or cognitive limitations. The program combines a sensory art studio experience with collaborative and social art projects, including murals and mosaics, to build artistic skills, social-emotional growth and peer connections. Weekly sessions will focus on process, creativity and inclusion. The Voya grant will be used to purchase adaptive tools, sensory materials and collaborative resources. She hopes the program will empower students, foster confidence and enhance personal and social development, while also gaining display opportunities.
