Daniel J. Schneck

Schneck’s innovative teaching project, “World Music Drumming,” will provide a class set of African drums and instruments for the World Music Drumming program in the school’s curriculum. After completing a Level I training last year, Schneck wants to bring this community-centered approach into the school’s classrooms. The program emphasizes group music-making, cooperation and cultural understanding, rooted in West African traditions. It’s designed to build community, listening skills and mutual respect. It also offers strong benefits for students in Specialized Resource Rooms, giving those with special needs an accessible way to express themselves, engage socially and build confidence. Through this program, all students, regardless of ability, can participate and create music together. The Voya grant will allow the school to implement an inclusive, culturally responsive program that will positively impact students for years to come.
