Voya Helps Fund Innovative Teaching Programs by Offering $140,000 in Grants; Application Ends Soon

Monday, March 23, 2020

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Voya Financial, Inc. (NYSE: VOYA), is encouraging K–12 educators across the country to apply for a Voya Unsung Heroes® grant for the 2020 calendar year. Eligible educators with innovative program ideas can apply by visiting the Unsung Heroes website at Voya.com/UnsungHeroes and submitting their information online by April 30, 2020.

“For over 20 years, our support of educators as they work to prepare our leaders of tomorrow for the 21st century workforce has been reinforced through our Unsung Heroes program,” said Angela Harrell, Chief Diversity and Corporate Responsibility Officer, and president, Voya Foundation. “The program brings to life educators’ innovative teaching ideas — underscoring Voya’s commitment to investing in the communities where our employees live and work, and empowering educators to design curriculum that inspires their students.”

Voya handed out its first Unsung Heroes award more than two decades ago as a way to demonstrate its commitment to the education community. Teachers are vital in the development of our society and the education community is an important customer group for the company’s Retirement business. After awarding over $5 million in grants, the program continues to be a catalyst for innovative learning.

This year, 50 finalists will be selected to receive a $2,000 grant. The winning projects will be chosen based on the creativity of the idea, the teaching method applied and the ability to positively influence students. Out of the 50 finalists, three are selected to receive enhanced awards: $5,000 for third place; $10,000 for second place; and $25,000 for first place.

Educators with a compelling, innovative idea are welcome to submit an application. Visit the Unsung Heroes website at Voya.com/UnsungHeroes to access the 2020 application and additional program information. Applications are currently being accepted through Thursday, April 30, 2020.

Unsung Heroes is part of Voya Foundation’s signature program, Voya Teacher Voices . Voya Teacher Voices focuses on empowering teachers to become leaders by promoting the teaching career, recognizing high-achieving educators, providing training opportunities and offering financial support to achieve their goals.
