Carolyn Lewey

Lewey’s innovative education idea, “New Suncook Page Turners,” empowers elementary students to build personal home libraries by earning new books through reading achievements at New Suncook School. With the Voya grant, the newly launched program can be expanded. According to Lewey, the goal of the “New Suncook Page Turners” program is to inspire a love of reading, improve literacy skills and provide students with equitable access to books by enabling them to build their own libraries. She believes that by linking academic achievements to opportunities to earn and own new books, the program fosters a culture of literacy and lifelong learning within the school and broader community.
