Three Voya executives recognized for commitment to advancing opportunities for people with disabilities and special needs

NEW YORK, June 11, 2021 — Voya Financial, Inc. (NYSE: VOYA), announced today that three of its senior executives were recognized by Creative Spirit for the company’s ongoing corporate commitment to increasing employment opportunities for people with disabilities and special needs, to help them plan for a secure financial future.

“We are honored that our Voya Cares program has been recognized for helping people with disabilities secure employment, so they have a chance to lead productive lives and enjoy a financially secure future,” said Jessica Tuman, vice president of the Voya Cares® Center of Excellence. “All corporations need to recognize that it is our responsibility as employers to work with organizations like Creative Spirit to create fair-wage jobs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.”

The company’s signature program, Voya Cares, helps people with disabilities and special needs and their caregivers plan for the future with a focus on education, advocacy and solutions.

Creative Spirit, which is devoted to creating integrated employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, recognized three Voya executives for supporting employment for people with disabilities and special needs. Named as the organization’s 2021 Champions of Diversity Honorees were Angela Harrell, senior vice president and chief diversity and corporate responsibility officer; Heather Lavallee, CEO of wealth solutions; and Tuman.

“Helping individuals with disabilities, their families, friends and other caregivers is simply the right thing to do,” continued Tuman. “We want to help all Americans plan for their financial future and the Voya Cares program is one of the ways we are supporting this important segment of our population.”

“Our goal is for all corporations to include support for people with disabilities in their diversity, equality and inclusion (DE&I) programs,” said Laurel Rossi, co-founder and board chair of Creative Spirit. “Voya, through its Voya Cares program and the commitment of its executives, has set a high standard for other corporations to emulate.”

According to Creative Spirit, only 12 percent of U.S. companies currently have a focus on the disability community included in their DE&I agendas.

In 2020, Creative Spirit honored Voya Cares as the “Diversity & Inclusion Program of the Year” for its unique and innovative support for people with disabilities and caregivers. Voya works together with Creative Spirit to help provide employment coaching for individuals with disabilities.
