Shannon Moore

Moore’s innovative teaching idea, “Facility Dog Fosters Connection,” enhances and builds upon Falcon Ridge Middle School’s existing trained service dog program. The school currently has a facility dog named Herbie, and he and his handler, the school’s counselor, are an Assistance Dog International accredited team. The school has protocols in place that teach all students and staff how to interact with the facility dog and provides resources available to community members. According to Moore, she intends to utilize Herbie, the facility dog, through in-depth programming within their positive behavior interventions and supports structures, counseling program, school attendance and literacy efforts for all students. The Voya grant will go directly towards tools and resources needed to engage their facility dog in these programs.
