Nicholas DeJong-Pawelski

DeJong-Pawelski’s innovative project, “Sensory/Calming Room,” will offer students a therapeutic, inclusive and safe environment tailored to support their diverse sensory needs. The room will be equipped with a variety of sensory stimuli, such as tactile surfaces, visual aids and calming sounds to promote self-regulation, relaxation and learning. The program’s objective is to enhance the well-being and academic performance of students with sensory processing challenges, such as autism, ADHD and anxiety disorders. The room will provide students with a space where they can better manage sensory overload, develop coping mechanisms, and engage in activities to improve focus and concentration. Ultimately, DeJong-Pawelski hopes the room will contribute to a more inclusive and supportive educational experience, foster a positive classroom environment for all students, and facilitate their academic success.
