Neil Swanson

Swanson’s innovative creative teaching idea, “Primary Sources,” integrates historical primary source analysis into a dynamic learning experience by creating an online radio station for students at Glenvar High School. Through the online radio platform, students will research, interpret and present historical events and perspectives using authentic primary sources, enhancing their critical thinking and communication skills. By producing radio segments, podcasts and interviews, students will engage deeply with historical content while developing technical skills in broadcasting and storytelling. The online radio station will provide a creative outlet for diverse voices, making history relevant and accessible to all. Swanson believes this innovative approach to learning about history not only fosters collaboration and academic growth but also builds connections between students, the school and the wider community. The Voya grant funds will go towards a purchase of a computer with editing software, microphones and headphones.
