Gartman’s innovative teaching idea, “Flexible Seating in High School Classrooms,” focuses on Gartman’s vision for a classroom design that would better accommodate the activities and lessons that he uses in his Next Gen Personal Finance curriculum. The Voya grant will be used to Gartman to purchase standing desks as well as tables and chairs on wheels.  This equipment can be easily be moved around the classroom to simulate real-world scenarios and group projects to make activities and topics such as investing, budgeting, managing credit, insurance, and many more seem like real life applicable skills, rather than just ideas to read out of a textbook. Through this project, Gartman hopes to emphasize the importance and relevance of financial literacy in a students’ long-term achievements.
