Haylen Satterfield

Satterfield’s innovative teaching idea, “Book Trailer Project,” involves students creating a one to two-minute video trailer for a book they have read, showcasing the main characters, setting, conflict and tone without revealing spoilers. They will write a script, storyboard their ideas and use digital tools like Canva, iMovie or Google Slides to produce their trailer. The Voya grant will help fund the necessary materials needed, such as devices with internet connections, cameras to record on, headphones and optional microphones. In addition to their technical skills, students will tap into their creative side by researching royalty-free music and images to enhance their trailers and practice persuasive storytelling. The project will end with a “premiere day” where students present their final trailers to the class, promoting their books and demonstrating creativity, comprehension and digital literacy. The Voya grant will be used to purchase iPads and pay guest speaker fees.
