The team’s innovative teaching idea, “Lights, Camera, Learn!” is an interdisciplinary filmmaking project designed to immerse an entire cohort of 10th-grade students at Technology Leadership High School in the creative process of storytelling through video production while showcasing content knowledge from their academic classes. In each 10th-grade classroom, students will tackle different aspects of the project, connecting and applying lessons from English, Spanish, world history, geometry and technology as they write scripts, direct, shoot and edit their own short films and documentaries. The team aims to promote active learning, empowering students to explore real-world issues and artistic expression using accessible digital tools while gaining technical skills and strengthening the art of collaboration, communication and critical thinking. The Voya grant will be used to help transform multiple classrooms into working studios, allowing students to build practical experiences that will spark lifelong learning or future careers potentially.
