Voya Financial named a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion” for sixth consecutive year

By Jessica Tuman, VP, Voya Cares & ESG Practice COE

Voya was pleased to be notified at the Disability:IN conference last week that it has earned recognition as a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion” for the sixth consecutive year. The company’s top score of 100 on the 2023 Disability Equality Index® (DEI)* illustrates continued, measurable progress to lessening unemployment and underemployment of people with disabilities.

Voya has earned the recognition as a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion” in part due to our strong engagement with collaborators representing the disabilities community, such as National Down Syndrome Society, the CEO Commission for Disability Employment, Easterseals and The Harkin Institute. In addition, Voya scored highly and is proud to point to our:

  • CEO commitment and accountability to building a disability inclusive culture
  • Talent acquisition, retention and accommodations practices for employees
  • Manager and employee training
  • Transparent communications
  • Inclusive benefits and
  • Supplier diversity program

Voya’s ongoing commitment to disability inclusion also is demonstrated through several key efforts, including Voya Cares® — a program devoted to making a positive difference in the lives of people with disabilities and special needs from birth through aging by providing advocacy, resources and solutions. Voya also supports its employees who are part of the disabilities community through its employee-led People with Disabilities and Caregivers Council.

At the Disability:IN conference last week, our CEO Heather Lavallee also signed the Disability:IN CEO Letter on disability inclusion — continuing the commitment started by Voya’s former CEO and current Executive Chairman Rodney O. Martin, Jr. Mr. Martin was one of six original CEO signatories of the letter, which calls on Fortune 1,000 CEOs to participate in the DEI. The letter now has more than 160 CEO signatories and counting.

Voya proudly displays our earned recognition as a Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion for six consecutive years, and our leadership, by becoming signatories of the CEO Letter, encourage all businesses to drive the global advancement of disability inclusion through participation in the DEI.

The DEI is a joint initiative of the American Association of People with Disabilities, the nation’s largest disability rights organization, and Disability:IN. The index measures key performance indicators across culture, leadership, supplier diversity, and employment practices, such as advancement, accommodations, benefits, education, recruitment and retention.

The 2023 “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion” recognition is based on 2022 information and a $600 administrative fee was paid for consideration. For more information, please visit www.voya.com/about-us/our-character/awards-and-recognition.
