Teen Poetry Contest Rules

Librarians, teachers, and other professionals working with youth aged twelve to eighteen are invited to sponsor teens in our annual poetry contest.

Please Note: We DO NOT accept entries submitted directly from teens without a sponsor.

Submission Guidelines:

  1. Contest submissions may be poems of up to thirty lines on any topic.
  2. They must be typed in a Word document, accompanied by the poet’s name, age, town, and state.
  3. Please include the following contact information on the same page as each poem entered: name, title, organization/school/library, address, phone, and e-mail.
  4. Name the document file with the poet's last name. Ex: Smith.doc
  5. Attach the document to an e-mail with the poet’s last name and “VOYA Teen Poetry Contest” in the subject line and send to voya@voya.com.
  6. Only one poem per teen, please.
Contest Deadline: December 31, 2010.

VOYA judges will select the top five winningest poems. When notified, sponsors must return the Publication Authorization found here, which gives parental permission to print the work of the winning poets. Each winner will receive a $20 cash prize and a copy of the April 2011 issue of VOYA.

VOYA's Cover Photo Contest for Teens

VOYA wants teen photographers' own creations to appear on the front cover of Voice of Youth Advocates (VOYA) magazine. Submit photographs that express the relationship between teens and the world of reading. Images should portray teens with any type of reading material: books, magazines, comics, computers, their own creative writing, media of any kind—even participating in library programs or other events.

Please Note: Photographs must be submitted by a librarian, teacher, or other adult sponsor.

Submission Guidelines

  1. High-resolution digital photos in tif or jpg form are accepted.
  2. All photos must be submitted with the name of the photographer and a suggested photo title or caption. Place the information in an e-mail to editors@voya.com.
  3. A cover sheet or e-mail must accompany all submissions, containing the teen photographer's name, age, e-mail, address, and phone number; along with the adult sponsor's name, title, library/school/organization, address, phone, and e-mail.
  4. Tips for Winning Photos: Photos must be well composed, well focused, and capable of sharp reproduction when enlarged. Seasonal themes, humor, and unusual poses catch the editor's attention. Award-winning photos from a local library or school photography contest are welcomed.
  5. E-mail photos to editors@voya.com.

When notified, sponsors must return the publication authorization found here, which gives parental permission to print the photographs.

Teen photographers whose pictures are published will receive a $50 prize and three copies of the magazine.
